Most dog bites go undocumented because they are fairly minor injuries. The dog bites that get the most press are typically when dogs that are poorly trained and taken care of (and often times abused) cause major injuries to someone.

However, dog bites of any kind can cause lasting effects beyond the cuts and bruises of the attack. Many people experience severe emotional trauma after a serious dog bite or attack. 15 Years to Life for Dog Owner

Earlier this year, we wrote about a 63 year old woman who was mauled to death by four dogs.  Recently, it was reported that the owner of those four dogs was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the second-degree murder of Pamela Devitt.

What Every Parent Should Teach Their Child About Dog Safety

Children are bitten by dogs much more often than you might think.  According to the CDC, over 2 million children are bitten by dogs in America every year.  Of those, over 400,000 require medical attention as a result of the incident. Additionally, the rate of dog bite–related injuries is highest for those ages 5 to 9 years.

Death by Dog

Earlier this year 63 year old Pamela Marie Devitt was jogging in Littlerock, California, when she was attacked by “four killer pit bulls” and mauled to death. Another woman attempted to scare off the dogs by driving at them with her car but they attacked the car and began biting the tires. Not until a County Sheriff arrived did the tragic ordeal end.
