Trucks serve an important role in our society. They serve as a mode of transportation that can carry a large amount of supplies to support our communities. But, because of their large size, trucks have the potential to cause immense harm on our roads, highways and freeways.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Distracted driving is a growing problem on our roadways. According to the National Highway Safety Administration, 3,328 people were killed in distracted driving crashes in 2012 alone.

Matthew J. Bortz, 28, was killed when his motorcycle crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer. Bortz veered into the opposite lane while trying to pass two vehicles in a no-passing zone and failed to calculate the timing correctly and did not allow enough clearance for the oncoming tractor-trailer.
