River Walk Park Surrounds and Attractions

The 32-acre Park at River Walk (which can be found city’s West side) is a magnificent example of urban engineering and connects to the scenic urban delights of the Kern River Parkway Trail. It was set aside for commercial development, but popular opinion and activism prevented the commercialization of the space. Today it provides residents of Bakersfield and the surrounding areas with a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an exceptional green space with a variety of flowering trees that offer something new each season.

The Park also has six covered picnic areas. These seat between 16 to 48 people. A number of other picnic tables and barbecues can be found throughout the park, which also has an attractive children’s playground.
The Park has two lakes connected by a man-made creek with four bridges. It also features fountains and walking trails that follow its course. The upper lake offers 3 acres of leisure opportunities and the lower lake extending over 2 acres provides an exceptional view and also the opportunity to enjoy a number of activities.
The park also features the attractive Bright House Networks Amphitheatre that hosts many concerts and community events during the course of the year. These events (that see thousands of attendees) take advantage of the amphitheater’s state-of-the-art sound and lighting.
